Looking Forward to Qliphoth

With the new October banlist coming out, it seems that the dominance of the Big Three (Shaddoll, Burning Abyss, and Satellarknight) isn't over yet. However, I wonder if it's still gonna be the same with the arrival of New Challengers this November who bring forth the evil Israelian force, the Qliphoth.

Empire Strikes Back

Qliphoth  is probably the most hyped archetype of this year. Any card that can support or anticipate this archetype has suddenly risen up in price. Summoner's art, a ROTA-like spell nobody ever wants except for some people who, for some reasons, playing Dark Magician deck, is now $30 each. That's ridiculous! With the addition of secret rare Odd-Eyes, and the above-super rare rarity that every Qliphoth card have, I have no wonder if the full deck gonna cost you more than $500. But I'm sure that the number itself can still grow as time goes.

The reason Qliphoth is so hyped, I believe, is because Qliphoth has the capability to create a one-deck format just like Dragon Ruler did. You see, Qliphoth, like the Dragons, has the ability to create an unlimited resources. With the unique ability that Pendulum monster has, Qliphoth can summon a swarm of 2100 ATK floater that can still return to the field every turn even if it's destroyed. This meanst that Qliphoth can beat the opponent by simply outresourcing them. A tier 2 deck that must maintain its resources wisely will have little to no chance against this deck.

Like Dragon Ruler again, the only way to stop Qliphoth's unlimited resources is to interrupt with its preparatian phase which includes you must going first and draw an MST, which is not gonna be easy with the new draw rule (OCG players have an easier way to interrupt or even destroy Qliphoth's preparation phase with Heavy Storm though). But even if you did manage to do that, Qliphoth has so many means to make sure their preparation phase continued. Between Odd-Eyes, Summoner's Art, Pot of Duality, Qliphoth Sacrifice, Qliphoth has so many ways to grab the Qliphoth Tool again and just continue building its unlimited resource.

However, unlike Dragon Rulers who has Ophion, Emptiness, Gozen Match, and Imperial Iron Wall,, Qliphoth has no real easy-accessed floodgate that can totally stops their play. By mentioning about how Qliphoth has unlimited resources, it does seems that they are playing a heavy special summon strategy. However, Qliphoth also able to play a heavy normal summon strategy with Qliphoth Fortress and Qliphoth Sacrifice. The only possible floodgate to stop Qliphoth's play is Mistake or Macro Cosmos but it's not the kind of floodgate that can be used by the current top tier deck.

In conclusion, the only way to defeat Qliphoth with non-Qliphoth deck is to interrupt with its preparation phase which is gonna be pretty difficult. It seems that the best way to fight Qliphoth is with Qliphoth itself and if it does happen then I have no wonder if Qliphoth is gonna be the tier zero deck of this year.

I don't know why, but I always like one-deck format where what matters is not the deck you play, but the individual card choice you put into your deck and most importantly your decision making in the game. It is a format where a duelist can be a real duelist and not just a pilot of some deck. I'm really looking forward to it if it does happen.

Anyway, GT Joglosemar is up next week. I really hope I can be there.

Semangat Pagi :D
