Some Rant for the New Format

Things are getting exciting again in competitive YGO scene. Three brand new deck, the Satellarknight, the Shadolls, and the Burning Abyss, dominating the Top 16 in ARGCS Atlantic City a week before. At last, we can say good bye to HAT-Geargia format which was a really boring format for the lackness of agressive play that player can make in those format.

With Shadolls, Satella, and Burning Abyss on the map, which all of them are a very fast and aggresive deck if unchallanged, we can hope for a more momentum-combo play which will become more interesting. Whomever can get the momentum to play their combo can secure a game for themselves.

Among three decks that dominates Atlantic City, Satellarknight comes out as the winner. However, I don't believe that Satellarknight can repeat this success again. Because if you see the decklist in Atlantic City, you can tell that Satellarknight is being played like a Geargia or Anti-meta deck in general.

Yes Satellarknight can become explosive, but it takes a long time before they can reach that stage. The only thing that can make them stay in the game is their trap lineup which makes them obliged to put 15+ 1 for 1 traps in their main deck. This problem makes Satellarknight pretty much a brick deck which doesn't give enough space for improvement.

Burning Abyss and Shadoll on the other hand, has unlimited possibilites for their deck. Shadoll can be combined with Artifact, Lightsworn, or any good Light Archetype. Burning Abyss can be combined with Djinn Rituals to create invincible Saffira, Queen of Dragoons who can't be destroyed or targeted. People are still developing new combo for Shadoll and Burning Abyss.

Soon enough Shadoll and Burning Abyss will be able to find a way to consistently bypass Satellarknight's traps. A main-decked Trap Stun or Royal Decree is possible. Or maybe a Shadoll and Burning Abyss build which will be less dependent on Dark monsters so they will be less vulnerable to Shadow-Impris. In anyway, I believe that Shadoll and Burning Abyss will continue to improve until the end of this format and Satellarknight will be left behind.

One thing to note in this format is that Vanity's Emptiness has become an obligatory 3-of staples. Its price has rose from $15 before August to $30. This is exactly the same thing with OCG Format before Qliphoth came, so congrats to people who have analyze the OCG format and decide to stock up for Emptiness. You will become filthy rich if you sell those cards now.

Anyway, since Emptiness has become a 3-of Staples, it will be wise to put cards that can counter it in your main deck. Mystical Space Typhoon will need to be prioritized after its popularity has been beaten by Wiretap and Seven Tools in the last format. And also, it is very important to make your deck less vulnerable to Emptiness. Shadoll can go for LS-build with main-decked Lyla and Ryko for example.

Anyway, I believe this format will be exciting due to its dominant decks and I wish to see more exciting stuff.
